A cooperation agreement was signed between Africa Education & Development Trust (AEDT) and Direct Aid International. The historic agreement signing ceremony held at UMMA University (Kajiado), marked the launch of a program dubbed “UMMA University Students Support Program”. A program aimed at proving scholarships & interest-free study loans for Umma University students.
This is a 7 year program targeting to support 2,200 students to successfully complete their studies at a cost of $ 13.2 Million Dollars. Speaking during the ceremony, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Africa Education & Development Trust (AEDT) Mr. Mohamed Alkhamis indicated that the program will enhance access to higher education thus empowering communities.
On his part, Dr. Al-Muhailan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Direct Aid International said that the program will not only provide financial aid for Umma University students but will also contribute to financial sustainability of the university.
Africa Education & Development Trust (AEDT), a non-profit organization whose goal is to empower communities through education financing, will manage the study loan program. AEDT has been implementing interest-free study loan program for the last six years, and has so far supported over 470 beneficiaries to pursue both post graduate and undergraduate studies.
Umma University management welcomed the initiative indicating that it will contribute to the growth and development of the institution.
Present during the agreement signing ceremony were Umma University Council members amongst other invited guests.
